Peter Ulrickson is a Senior Fellow with The Gibbons Institute. A mathematician, he has been a member of The Gibbons Institute since its inception. His scientific research examines spatial characteristics of shapes that persist under continuous deformation. He also works in the history, philosophy, and practice of mathematics education.

Dr. Ulrickson received his doctorate from University of Notre Dame, where he studied mathematical structures arising from formalizations of quantum field theory. More recently, his research has been in knot theory, graph theory, and combinatorics.

Aware of the need for a robust, accessible, and authentic presentation of classical mathematics, Ulrickson wrote A Brief Quadrivium. This text presents the four mathematical disciplines of the traditional liberal arts — arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy — in a novel and compelling manner. A companion volume for teachers offers insight into this educational tradition from the perspective of a practicing mathematician. These books continue to be adopted for use in classical schools.
